The golf season in Nova Scotia runs from mid-May to late October providing you with many options for a golf trip. The best time to visit Cabot Cape Breton depends on your ideals.
Cabot breaks their season into sections. The exact dates of each section change annually but are generally as follows:
Early Season: Mid – end of May
Spring: First two weeks of June
Mid Season: Last two weeks of June
Peak Season: July 1 – first week of September / end of Labour day weekend
Mid Season: Middle two weeks of September
Fall Season: Last week of September – First week of October
Late Season: Second – Third week in October
There are three key factors you should consider when determining the best time to visit Cabot Cape Breton: price, weather, and availability. In this article, we will outline each contributing factor to help you make an informed decision.
Price
The cost of a round at Cabot Cape Breton is significantly impacted by the part of the season you are visiting in. The peak season has the highest rates, while the early and late seasons are half the peak price, and the other four parts fall in between.
If you are planning your trip on a tight budget, there is substantial savings when booking before mid-June or at the end of September / anytime in October.
Accomodations on resort and at Cabot Cottage follow the same pattern. So if you can’t find a rate that suites your budget in the peak season, try earlier or later.
Weather
The weather in Canada and especially on the East Coast varies significantly throughout the golf season. If you visit in May, you should expect cooler temperatures, sometimes as low as 0 degrees Celcius (32 F) but usually closer to 12 (53 F).
It gets increasingly warmer and then peaks for about 8 weeks from mid-June to mid-August, with temps hitting 25 – 30 degrees Celcius (77 – 86 F). A more comfortable period starts in late August and continues through September, with temperatures fluctuating between 16 – 21 degrees Celsius (60 – 69 F).
October is another cooler and less predictable month, with temperatures similar to those found at the start of the season in May. The bonus to October weather is the incredible display of colours put on by Mother Nature.
Availability
Rounds and accommodations book up fast, and if you aren’t on top of it, you’ll be left with minimal options. We suggest booking your accommodations first and as early as possible. The resort tends to book up close to a year in advance, with off-resort accommodation filling up closer to the season starting.
Tee times open 30 days in advance (i.e., a new date opens every day). If you are booking within thirty days, you should definitely check the availability of rounds first. However, it’s worth booking even if the exact number of rounds you’d like isn’t available. The resort keeps a waitlist, and if rounds become available (and they likely will), they let you know.
The Best Time for You
Prices and temperatures are both at their highest from July to September, so you’ll need to decide which is more important to you and your group. If you are budget conscious, choose something off-peak. If you are all about warm weather, select something in the summer. But no matter what you choose, book as early as possible!
